“We saw that a power greater than ourselves was doing for us what we could never do alone.”
– Life with Hope, first edition, page 9
Step Two tells me to remember that I am not God. I do not control other people or things. With the help of my Higher Power, I can control my behavior. In order to control my behavior, I must make choices. The choice to not smoke pot today can only come from a focused mind, a mind that is clear about what is in my control and what is not. When I try to own issues and problems that are not mine to own, I will set myself on the path to disappointment which can lead to frustration, disillusionment, and self loathing. This is a perfect recipe for relapse.
Final thought: Today, I choose to focus on the things I can control.
