March 2nd – This Burden

March 2nd - a person at the beach holding up a peace sign

“I have tried to control the uncontrollable for far too long. I ask that you take this burden from me.”

Life with Hope, first edition, page 13

Trying to push against doors that said “pull,” wishing red lights were green, and wanting to be someone else in a different time and place were all symptoms of my “dis-ease.” I thought if I prayed hard enough, things would change. When that didn’t work, I would pout and become angry. The peace-loving beatnik disappeared. Recovery has taught me there’s an easier, gentler way.

Final thought: God can relieve the self-imposed burden of needing control. All I need is acceptance and willingness.
