“Our new attitudes bring about self-esteem, inner strength, and serenity that is not easily shaken by any of life’s hard times.”
– Our Awakening, Life with Hope, third edition, page 61
For me the Awakening resonates. I feel I am A-waking up! I am in recovery and the cobwebs are clearing. I am beginning to move about in the world more mindfully with the help of Marijuana Anonymous. When I was smoking, when life got “lifey” I reacted, usually making things worse; I whipped things up! I was impatient, and felt “poor me.”
Listening to fellows in MA meetings, I hear that life is complicated for all people. All people have stresses in their lives. I am not alone. Regardless of what is happening around me, (I now try to say AROUND me vs. TO me) I am learning to NOT overreact and realize I can be unflappable. I breathe and remember to let go and let God. When I can do that, I feel peaceful and A-wake.
Final thought: Today, with God’s help, please help me learn to be a mountain in any storm.

Written By, David L. I started using at 16. As soon as I got my own stash, my addiction began. It started as my nightly routine, helping me to escape my anxieties and calm my mind. Deep, relaxing sleeps turned into obsessive use… smoking joints on the way to school, avoiding my parents to hide…

“Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?” Published in A New Leaf – September 2025

Written by, Anonymous I am engaged in a war with a beast that lives inside of me. It is old, born in the garden of Eden, enslaving all addicts. It is no coincidence that the Jewish holiday of Passover fell while I was detoxing, for this holiday celebrates the release of Jews from slavery. I…

Written by, Terri R. I got my nine month chip at a Glendale MA meeting this week. I am the type of person who reflects on my progress whenever I reach a milestone like this. Course, I am very proud of myself. However, I’m also thinking of all the gifts I received from the program…

Written by, Terry M. In the book, “The Road Less Traveled,” Scott Peck defines love as “the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.” One of the first things I remember being told when I reached these rooms was “we will love you until you learn…
