“Faith provides us with the motivation to surrender to God’s will.”
– Life with Hope, second edition, page 57
As an active addict, I was a very negative person. I was enslaved by marijuana, and one day I was led to the rooms of recovery, where I have learned a new way to live, free from addiction. I learned how to pray in Marijuana Anonymous. At first, I would recite the prayers I heard in the meetings: the Third and Seventh Step Prayers and the Serenity Prayer. I heard that I should not ask for my will, but ask to be shown my Higher Power’s will. This wasn’t easy for me, because I could not always tell what was my will versus what was my Higher Power’s will. I’ve come to understand that my intuition is one of my Higher Power’s voices, and if I listen to it, it gets louder.
The Eleventh Step reminds me to pray for my Higher Power’s will for me and for the power to carry that out. I didn’t like the saying, “your will, not mine,” so I changed it to, “may my will, be your will.” In recovery, I want to keep my life as positive as I can.
Final thought: Higher Power, show me your will for me today, and grant me the power to carry it out. May my will, be your will.

And whosoever surrenders himself one single time, whoever has practiced the great act of confidence and entrusted himself to fate, is liberated. He no longer obeys the laws of earth; he…

Written by, Anonymous I am a marijuana addict because when using pot, it was the most important thing in my life. More important than anyone or anything. It helped to suppress all the inadequacies I felt. It helped me not to feel the pain of not living up to expectations. It enabled me not to…

Written by, Ellen B. As a Marijuana addict in recovery, my Jewish High Holyday season has a natural connection to working the Twelve Steps and practicing the spiritual principles daily. A New Leaf requested submissions for Yom Kippur and Sukkot, therefore this piece of writing will only focus on these parts of the holiday season.…
