“The practice of gratitude is perhaps the most moving and powerful way in which we can cultivate a conscious contact with a Higher Power.”
– Life with Hope, first edition, page 58
Conscious awareness of the many things for which I am grateful strengthens my sense of connection—the source that keeps me clean and sober. This is God as I understand God. God uses people to help me stay clean and sober. God can use me to help others; I cannot be much use to my fellows when I lack gratitude.
Life is easier when I focus on where I do have power. I have power over my attitude, and an attitude of gratitude is the way to go. Using the letters of the alphabet can help me think of things for which I am grateful. My awareness shifts to my Creator and all the blessings that are there for me to count, even in the midst of affliction.
Final thought: Today, I will share at least one thing that I am grateful for with someone.
