“The basic ingredients of humility are unpretentiousness and a willingness to submit to a Higher Power’s will.”
– Life with Hope, first edition, page 31
One of the hardest concepts for me to get my arms around is “God’s will for us.” I trusted my best thinking and self-will, and it led me to addiction to marijuana and other substances. Now it is suggested that I submit to a Higher Power’s will. The question that is often asked is, “How can I differentiate between my will and that of my Higher Power?” The answer is not easy, and the truth of my being is often found in the daily practice of prayer and meditation.
It has been said that prayer is speaking to my Higher Power, and meditation is listening to my Higher Power. Through this practice I am able to form a relationship with my Higher Power that yields peace, serenity, insight, and trust. I can start this practice at any time. There is no right way or wrong way to do this work. I can just be open, willing, and honest about my thoughts and feelings with my Higher Power, and say them out loud. I sit in the silence and listen and repeat daily.
Final thought: Today, I will speak my word to my Higher Power, and listen for the answer.
