“Marijuana gave me wings to fly, and took away the sky.”
– Freedom to Be Me, Life with Hope, third edition, page 116
The longer I am clean, the more I realize how much thinking I used to do. I spent hours daydreaming and creating imaginative plans in my head about all of the things I could do tomorrow. I put off my goals and dreams and instead I smoked away any real motivation I had left while dreaming up more plans. By the end of the day, I would be exhausted simply from all the thinking I’d been doing!
In MA, I have learned to focus on what I can do today. I have learned to get in touch with my goals and aspirations while consulting God for guidance. While I still have my imagination, I am now able to take action. I am able to put one foot in front of the other and walk a path of recovery one day at a time. When I fantasize about escaping through marijuana into the depths of my own mind, I can remember how much more I’ve been able to accomplish since I quit using. I now have a fellowship I can connect with and a Higher Power that I can rely on.
Final thought: God, help me remember today that I am much more capable of accomplishing my goals if I stay clean and rely on You. Help me put one foot in front of the other and take the next indicated action.
